WHO WE ARE

THE ASSOCIATION

VIVRE DE SA TERRE

Vivre de sa Terre designs tailor-made services which make sense in the Cambodian rural context. Our mission is to empower farmers to be free of their techno-economic dependencies, and to increase their incomes and improve their living conditions. To do so, our organisation focus on three main topics: research and farming innovation, agricultural training and local entrepreneurship.

The applied research gathers operational data which are useful to complete young Cambodians training. Strengthening local inhabitants is key to entrepreneurship development. In return, entrepreneurs’ activities sustain agricultural innovation and enhance pedagogical contents.

2015

The founders of Vivre de sa Terre spend their first year in Cambodia sharing the everyday life of Banan district’s farmers. Thanks to this experience, they did an accurate agronomical diagnosis as well as an advanced socio-economic study. The occidental model of conventional agriculture appeared totally irrelevant in Cambodia . However, the significant potential of agroecology was noticed, alongside the impediments to be rid of to make its adoption possible.

2016

After this stage of observation came a time of deep thought to identify the most important actions to carry on. Preliminary studies and feasability studies were conducted, which were essential to determine the overall strategy. At last, Vivre de sa Terre established partnerships with several organisms, including scientific and educational ones. The impact and the diffusion of our actions are greatly improved by these partnerships.

2017

In 2017, the first programs became operational. Several trials were carried out on the experimental plots. Vivre de sa Terre dispensed a training class to the benefit of the students of the university of Battambang, and created an association of pepper producers. Building local staff’s and farmers’ capacities was also an important point. Finally, Vivre de sa Terre did numerous interventions alongside its partners.

2018

The whole important projects of Vivre de sa Terre will be developped in 2018. The three main projects  KOMNAET (Training), KAET (Research), and BonKAEN (Entrepreneurship) will become fully operational. They will enable the staff to  choose the most appropriate of the agroecological practices and to spread them to a wide public. The main goal is to greatly improve the living conditions of farmer thanks to agroecology.

Our Values

To give a chance to young Cambodians to believe in a real future as farmers, Vivre de sa Terre defends two basic rights

Living decently on one’s land

In Cambodia, the lack of knowledges compel farmers to follow technics of big companies of agro-industry. Rural families use farming technics that contribute to soil degradation and increase their debts because they are buying seeds, agricultural inputs and pesticides. We commit to broadcast knowledges to farmers, so they can emancipate themselves from economical dependencies and emerge from poverty.

Healthy nutrition

Contamination of the food by pesticides is  causing  many diseases and poisonings amongst khmer people. However, the lack of alternative don’t allow  khmer farmers to grow plants without using a lot of crop protection products. Vivre de sa Terre offers to suppress dangerous pesticides and get a healthy production for the sake of farmers and consumers health.

Our approach relies on the three pillars of sustainable development:

Fair society

Sustainable ecology

Viable Economy

Our work

Vivre de sa Terre technical support services are organized around three main topics:

Research and farming innovation

The KAET project of Vivre de sa Terre aims to boost farming innovations on production systems by multiplying local experimentations and research activities.

The objectives of KAET Studies are the management of study groups and the organisation of knowledge sharing workshops between students, teachers, technicians and farmers.

With the KAET Fields project, we are setting up experimental plots to carry out tests and assessment of innovative agricultural practices.

KAET Database is an online databases which identifies and characterizes local plant diversity, to create a useful tool for innovative cropping systems.

Farm training and capacity building

The objectives of the KOMNAET project are to build capacities of students, technicians and farmers through the dissemination of advanced training modules in agroecology.

With the KOMNAET Coop project, we seek to bring together a teachers’ community to work on the creation and dissemination of training materials. These would be dedicated to young farmers or students and appropriate to the ecosystems of Mekong region.

KOMNAET Apps is an agricultural training application, broadcasting audiovisual content entirely conceived in Khmer.

LocaL entrepreneurship AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT

Using the training materials, BonKAEN project aims to create a farming entrepreneurship network whose business model would be based on the agroecology’s principles and the capacity building of stakeholders.

BonKAEN Services is an offer of technical support and project management assistance to meet the needs of farmers or organizations wishing to develop their activities through agroecology.

The BonKAEN Startups project, which is scheduled to start in 2020, aims to support more than one hundred TEUK SAAT entrepreneurs in about 90 municipalities through dedicated agribusiness plans.
